In Isaiah, chapter sixty-one, verse two, “To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn.” Jesus did not quote this prophecy, as in Luke four, verses eighteen through nineteen, since the day of vengeance would not occur until the second coming. Final judgment upon the wicked will take place during the great tribulation and at Christ’s return to earth, as in chapter thirty-four, verse eight. ” For it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.” Though speaking in the context of a destruction coming from God on the Edomites as enemies of God and His people, Isaiah prophesies a coming judgment to all the unregenerate (which is all those who are hostile toward God).
In the New Testament, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” This verse portrays Christ’s appearing in the sky after the tribulation and the cosmic signs. He will come to judge the wicked, to deliver the faithful people, and to establish righteousness on earth. All Christians, both living and those who are not, who had been taken from the earth at the rapture, will return with Christ at His coming with power and great glory.
Revelation, chapter five through nineteen, reveals for believers what is coming. Many Christians do not read the last book in God’s Word much because it graphically details what will take place here on earth. On the other hand, the skeptics and scholars, who study and do not have a real relationship with God, cannot determine.
