I have laboured in vain

In Isaiah, chapter forty-nine, verse four, “Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.” The ministry of the prophets as God’s servants was full of disappointments and hostile opposition from many in God’s chosen nation. Likewise, the mission of the Servant, Jesus Christ, appeared to have failed when He died on the cross. The emphasis of disappointment may sound strange coming from the lips of the true Servant. However, the prophet had learnt by his own experience that this formed part of the discipline of every true servant of God.
Today, the loving and dedicated people of God, who have a passion to see unbelievers become believers, believe as they pray daily and live to be an example according to God’s Word, anticipate a successful encounter when they meet others. Still, to their surprise, the result is not always what we expect it to be at times. Therefore, it would seem as though the effort we faithfully made for God may appear to fail. However, it is not because God is the one who does the work on those who are on the receiving end, the mission of the servant is to present the gift of salvation.
Remember, for the unbeliever, it is a choice. Every human person’s life experience is on different levels. The enemy, because those who live in darkness and yet to know who God really is, blinds the eyes of their mind. They are living life and not able to see spiritually what is going on, and physically live on the surface. God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit, is the One who does the work as the person opens their heart and yield.
