In Isaiah, chapter fifty-eight, verse one, “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” The prophet cries out against the people’s sins like a mighty trumpet blast; the transgressions and hypocrisy of God’s people must be revealed. If God’s messengers fail to point out the sins of the people, they are not faithful to God’s call.
Cry aloud with open throat, with full voice coming from the throat and chest; while one who speaks low uses only the lips and tongue. Spare not, which is do not spare, or restrain the voice. Let it be full, loud, and strong. Lift thy voice like a trumpet and speak loud and distinct, so that the language of reproof may be heard. The sense is, the people are insensible. They needed something to rouse them to a sense of their guilt.
Believers must go and proclaim it so that all may hear. Speak not in whispers; speak not to a part, but speak so earnestly that their attention will be arrested, and so that all shall hear. The words of the Lord through His servant must grasp their attention for them to receive an opportunity to be delivered.
Today, it is sad to say, but many go to the house of God and do not pay attention because of one of two things: First, some people go and do not focus on the servant of God because their interests are more physical than spiritual. Second, the servant of God may not be focused on God properly. Therefore, the message coming from the speaker is not from God or the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of God, for it to be effective with the congregation who attend.
