In Jeremiah, chapter one, verse eighteen, “For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.” Although Jeremiah was a sensitive young man, God added some spiritual iron into his backbone, enabling him to become the strongest, boldest, and bravest of all the prophets. God can use us in ways far beyond our own natural tendencies and abilities.
The Lord will defend His people from those that attempt to contend against them, and they shall be no more able to hurt them than they would be if thou wast in a strongly fortified and impregnable city. And brazen walls which cannot be broken or battered down with any force. Against the whole land, against the kings, are basically all its inhabitants in general. Even though men of all degrees should set themselves against him, yet God would support him against them all, and would carry him through his work. Although his troubles would not only be great, but long, extended, through several kings’ reigns.
Those unbelievers shall fight against God’s people, shall oppose them, and manifest much hostile hatred against them; but those who oppose God and His people shall not prevail. They shall not be able, by all their devices, to shorten thy days, or to prevent thy executing the charge given them. For the Lord is with them, to deliver them and will show His power in protecting and delivering them out of all their troubles, when the adversaries shall become a prey to their enemies.
For believers, “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace,” as in Exodus fourteen, verse fourteen.
