In Isaiah, chapter sixty-two, verses one through twelve, this chapter speaks of a day when Jerusalem will be filled with the glory and righteousness of the Lord; God’s people will dwell within its walls in peace and joy, and all the world will benefit from its exaltation. This day will take place after the Savior comes at the end of the age, as in verse eleven. “Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.” This verse refers to Christ’s second coming to establish righteousness on earth and bring praise to Jerusalem for His name’s sake, for “his reward is with him,” as in Revelation twenty-two, verse twelve.
In verse four, “Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.” Hepzi-bah means “my delight is in her,” and Beulah means “married.” These names signify that God has renewed His covenant with Jerusalem.
In verse six, “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence.” God has appointed watchmen on the walls of Zion (which are prophets and faithful intercessors who never stop praying for the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth and for the glory of Jerusalem).
Similarly, New Testament believers must make it a practice to intercede unceasingly for the establishment of God’s kingdom and Christ’s righteous rule over the earth. In all things that we know to be His will, we must continually remind God of His Word and promises and “give him no rest,” as in verse seven, until He brings to pass all that He has promised.
