In Isaiah, chapter fifty-nine, verse twenty, “And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.” This Redeemer is Jesus Christ, as in chapter thirty-five, verse four, chapter forty, verse nine, and chapter fifty-two, verse seven; He will come to those who genuinely turn from their sins and serve the Lord. Zion is a term that refers to Jerusalem, the city of God, and its temple, land, and people. It also has a spiritual sense of God’s kingdom and the heavenly Jerusalem.
Isaiah thirty-five, verse four, “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.” God will one day recompense the world for its evil and reward the righteous with His great salvation. Isaiah forty, verse nine, “O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!” All human life is warfare; the Christian life is the most, but the struggle will not last always. Troubles are removed in love when sin is pardoned.
Isaiah fifty-two, verse seven, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” The gospel proclaims liberty to those bound with fears. The price paid by the Redeemer for our salvation was not silver or gold, or corruptible things, but his own precious blood. Considering the freeness of this salvation, and how hurtful to temporal comfort sins are, we shall more value the redemption which is in Christ.
