In Jeremiah, chapter twelve, verse six, “For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.” Evidently, some of Jeremiah’s own family had turned against him and dealt treacherously with him. The Lord answers the prophet’s complaint, seeing his impatience, by mentioning that he will have to endure still worse.
The theme verse presents the contrast between tasks of smaller or greater difficulty, applied to the prophet’s relation toward his enemies. What Jeremiah had to suffer from his countrymen of Anathoth was but a trifle compared with the malign assaults that yet awaited him in the discharge of his office.
For believers who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and who live for God, family will be the most challenging of all groups in life. Most family members know their believing family member since birth or childhood. However, as believers make progress in their relationship with the Lord, some may experience a withdrawal from relatives and other family members. The devil will even use deception to create turmoil or misunderstanding. However, believers in these situations should not overreact or jump to conclusions.
Problems may arise when making contact. A believer may contact a family member via voice call or text and may notice a late or no response. However, if they continue to call and do get them, they may receive some excuse that may sound unusual or might not even make sense. Secondly, family members might even avoid being around when planning a visit. Another scenario may occur when a believer encounters family members who seldom connect, might behave strangely, and may not engage in person as expected, but be more reserved and uncomfortable.
