In these chapters of Isaiah, from forty through sixty-six, were written during the later years of Isaiah’s life. God revealed these prophecies to offer hope and comfort to His people during their captivity in Babylon, one hundred and fifty years after the time of Isaiah, as revealed in chapter nine, verses five to eight. They are filled with prophetic revelation about the coming Messiah and His future Kingdom on earth. Some predicted events were fulfilled in connection with Judah’s Babylonian captivity and restoration, many relate more specifically to the appearance of Jesus Christ on earth; still others await fulfillment. In general, chapters forty through forty-eight emphasize deliverance, chapters forty-nine to fifty-seven are redemption, while chapters fifty-eight through sixty-six reveal glory.
Comfort ye is the title theme, which is the beginning of this chapter forty to the final chapter sixty-six of Isaiah. These chapters cover comfort for God’s people, God will help Israel, the mission of God’s servant, and song of praise to the Lord. The nation’s sin and punishment, God will redeem His people, Israel’s sin and ingratitude, God’s blessings upon the nation, Judgment upon idol worship, and Cyrus to restore Jerusalem. Babylon’s idols and the Lord start chapter forty-six, judgment against Babylon, obstinate Israel, and the Redeemer of Israel.
The redemption chapter includes: the servant’s call, the restoration of Israel, sin separates Israel from God, obedient response of the servant, the Lord will deliver His people, the cup of God’s fury, God will restore Jerusalem, and the servant of the Lord. Blessings through the servant, the great invitation. These are some of the headings these chapters will cover in the continuation of Isaiah. Comfort ye is to comfort you, letting the faithful know what the Word of God says, what is to come. To comfort you with these words.
