Comfort ye my people

In Isaiah, chapter forty, verse one, “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.” Isaiah comforts God’s people by prophesying to a future generation the good news that God’s period of chastisement was nearly over and salvation and blessing were coming. If you are experiencing great difficulty in your life and you know that Christ is your Saviour, you can pray for God either to deliver you from such trouble or to be with you and help you in the midst of it. To give us comfort is a task of the triune God: God the Father is called “the God of all comfort,” as in Second Corinthians one, verse three, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.”
“To comfort all that mourn” is a characteristic of the ministry of the Son of God, as in Isaiah sixty-one, verse two, and the Holy Spirit is called “the Comforter” as in John fourteen, verses sixteen and twenty-six, chapter fifteen, verse twenty-six, and chapter sixteen, verse one, the One who stands alongside us to provide comfort, counsel, and help.
Today, many people seek comfort to alleviate the pressure of life, the troubling circumstances they are facing, or may encounter. Some will try alcohol, medication, a new relationship, purchase something new, attend a social function, gamble, and so on. However, these choices may temporarily alleviate the situation, but in reality, these options will eventually fade, and the person will discover that the problem remains unresolved. The world can only do so much to help on the outside. However, the only One, known as the Holy One, can take care of the outside problems and the inside, where it affects the most: the heart. Only Jesus saves and delivers.
