In that day

In Isaiah, chapter nineteen, verses sixteen through twenty-five, Isaiah gives these four prophecies in the Old Testament to be fulfilled “in that day.” The Egyptians would fear Judah when they realized their judgment had come from God, as in verses sixteen to seventeen. After a time of affliction, cities in Egypt would worship the Lord, and altars would be erected to Him, as in verses eighteen through nineteen. The Egyptians would cry out to God, who would then send them a Saviour, and many would turn to the Lord, as in verses twenty to twenty-two. Egypt, Assyria, and Israel would all worship together as in verses twenty-three to twenty-five.
Although “that day” is not clearly identified here, other passages suggest that it refers to end-time events associated with the tribulation period, as in the Revelation chapters, four through nineteen, and the millennial rule of Christ in Revelation twenty.
God shall come to all people with his judgments. He will raise the causes of their destruction from among themselves. When the ungodly escape danger, they are apt to think themselves secure; but evil pursues sinners, and will speedily overtake them, except they repent. The evil individuals will be given over into the hand of one who shall rule them with rigour, as was shortly after fulfilled. These ungodly were renowned for wisdom and science; yet the Lord would give them up to their own perverse schemes, and to quarrel, till their land would be brought by their contests to become an object of contempt and pity. He renders sinners afraid of those whom they have despised and oppressed, and the Lord of hosts will make the workers of iniquity a terror to themselves, and to each other; and every object around, as a terror to them.
