Forgotten the God of thy salvation

In Isaiah, chapter seventeen, verse ten, “Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips.” Forgetting God is not a sin limited to Israel. Jesus warns that the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, the pursuit of material things, and the pleasure of sin can choke God’s Word in the lives of believers, as in Mark four, verses three to nine, fourteen through twenty and cause them to forget Him, to stop praying daily, and no longer delight in Him, or in His Word. When this happens, we lose the blessing and presence of God.
The Sin of a Godless Life. There is no charge of positive hostility or of any overt act. This forgetfulness is most natural and easy to fall into, due to the constant pressure of the world, signifiy, the alienation of the heart from God. It is most common among us, far more so than active infidelity, far more so than gross sin, far more so than conscious hostility.
The Busy Effort and Apparent Success of a Godless Life. If a person loses their hold on God and has not stayed on course with the Creator, they are driven to painful efforts in substitute for the loss. Every soul needs God. If the soul is not satisfied in Him, then there are hungry desires. This is the explanation for the feverish activity within our lives.
Such work is far harder than serving God. It takes a great deal of toil to make that garden grow. The world is a hard taskmaster. God’s service is easy. He sets us in Eden to till and dress it, but then we forget Him.
