The fear of the Lord is to hate evil

In Proverbs, chapter eight, verse thirteen, the fear of God should cause us to depart from evil. “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil,” as in Proverbs sixteen, verse six. And to hate sin that displeases Him and destroys us and those we love. “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate,” is the theme verse under The Call of Wisdom section. The scripture depicts the children of God as being careful and not careless in not allowing evil to enter their hearts. All saints should guard their hearts from any bad, corrupt, destructive, unpleasant thing that opposes God and His Word. The enemy will use envious or hateful people to devise mischief against the righteous or believers in Christ. However, Isaiah forty-one, verse ten, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

God desires all His people to live their lives doing right. Jesus said in John fifteen, verse ten, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. It sounds so simple. However, the challenge is to live it, which is more than hearing, reading, and saying, but doing it. To obey is better than sacrifice.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction, as in Proverbs one, verse seven: To follow God’s Word will lead to victory. However, those who do not pursue what the Lord says will fail.
