Psalms, chapter two, verses one to twelve, the psalm consists of four distinct scenes. The psalmist begins by speaking of the people and the kings of the world taking a stand against God’s Anointed, as in Acts four, verses twenty-five through twenty-seven. It is a sad picture of the arrogant human rebellion of humankind against God, His law, His redemption, His Messiah, and the moral teaching of His revelation. The New Testament sees the world in opposition to Christ, the believer, and the Biblical faith, as in John fifteen, verse nineteen, and Ephesians six, verse twelve.
God responds by deriding the ridiculous efforts of the world to remove Him from the scene. The time will come when He will terminate the human rebellion and fully establish His kingdom on earth, as in Romans one, verse eighteen, First Thessalonians five, verses one through twelve, and Second Thessalonians two, verse eight, followed by Revelation nineteen, verses eleven through twenty-one, respectively.
God the Father promises to send His beloved Son, the ultimate inheritance of the nations, to defeat all who oppose His rule. This promise will receive fulfillment when Christ comes to earth at the end of time and destroys the enemies of God. Then all faithful believers will share in His reign over the nations, as in Revelation two, verses twenty-six to twenty-seven.
Through the psalmist, the Holy Spirit prompted humankind to be wise before the Almighty God and to take refuge in Him before that terrible day of God’s judgment arrives, as in verses ten through twelve and Hebrews three, verses seven through nineteen.
The Psalms chapter forty-six is under the Triumph of the King section. The heathen are the ungodly, and they do not think of the things of God but only follow the nature of the world that is under the servitude of Satan. Therefore, they will not be able to do godly things according to the Word of God because there is a force that pressures them to do the things of the evil one and not the Holy One due to sin and the powers of darkness that surround their life.
