In Psalms, chapter seventy-one, verse eighteen, our hope and purpose in life should be able to abide in God and the fullness of His Spirit so that His power and goodness will manifest in our lives. Therefore, the next generation will be enlightened and inspired to seek earnestly God’s kingdom and righteousness, as in Matthew six, verse thirty-three, Acts one, verse eight, chapter four, verses thirty through thirty-three, and chapter eleven, verse twenty-four, respectively.
The theme verse expresses the senior person pleading to God that as they age, they will not be neglected but still be of service to help the younger generation. Some elderly folks fear not being of any use to others and not getting the attention they are used to. This situation would cross many people as they age and may see a decline in public interest in them. However, the focus on seniors should be on ways of helping others, whether through their physical talents or verbal skills. Sometimes, a simple smile or greeting will go a long way for some people we may encounter daily.
For believers, God should be the focus of attention when others may not be interested in us. Apart from that, seniors should focus on the Word of God, prayer, worship, praise, and doing what we can to help others know God through us, which begins with how we live. Seeing the power of God manifest through seniors depends upon what they desire from God. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth,” as in John four, verse twenty-four. To show the power of God will require believers to be in a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Every believer must desire the spiritual gifts that come from God. God moves by His Spirit.
