In Psalms, chapter sixty-one, verse four, “trust in the covert of thy wings” means depending upon God to guide His people through the storms and sunny days of life. There is a song in the first three verses of this chapter before the theme verse.
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the ends of the earth, will I cry unto thee,
When my heart is overwhelmed,
lead me to the rock
that is higher than I.
For thou hast been a shelter for me
and a strong tower from the enemy.
When my heart is overwhelmed,
lead me to the rock
that is higher than I
that is higher than I.
That is higher than I
that is higher than I.
The child expects the guardian to guide, protect, and care for them throughout the season. Whether it is stormy, icy, sunny, hot, or cold, believers will depend upon the Lord in every situation. God desires to help His people because there will be circumstances that only He can take care of and that no human power or will can overcome.
On the other hand, for a guardian to protect a child, there are instructions for the child to abide by for the security to work. The situation is similar to God and His people. In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam and Eve instructions on what to eat and what not. For both of them to enjoy and live there, they were to follow these guidelines. Although deceived by the serpent who came in the Garden of Eden, they still received the Word from God first, who was their Creator.
The serpent in the Garden of Eden was not their guardian or protector. He was a stranger who spoke with them; both Adam and Eve should not have listened to his instruction. To “trust in the covert of thy wings” requires the following instructions to benefit from the protection.
