In Psalms, chapter five, verses five through six, evil does not exist in the abstract. God not only hates sin but the spirit of those who perpetrate evil. On the other hand, the scriptures reveal God to be the One who loves sinners, reaches out to them in compassion and mercy, and seeks to redeem them from sin through the cross of Christ, as in John three, verse sixteen.
The theme verses are part of A morning prayer section of Psalms five. However, the verse before the main is significant because it is coherent with the theme verses. In Psalms five, verse four states, “For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.” The truth of the matter is all workers of iniquity operate under the influence of Satan. God sees the heart of the wicked, but we only view it when the evil is on display.
In Jeremiah seventeen, verse nine states, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?” People can only witness evil when it comes out from the heart. The mind plays a role in the heart for the body to react. In Job twenty-three, verse thirteen, “But he is in one thought and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.”
Proverbs twenty-one, verse twenty-seven, states, “The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?” The enemy uses sin to activate the person and control them as a pawn to do his will. In Ephesians two, verse two states, “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” All believers were unbelievers until overcoming the sin through guidance, mercy, and grace God gives to His people.
God hates the workers of iniquity because they are working in sin and under the influence of the Evil One and risk their lives of losing out with Him. God sees and knows who is behind the evil. Justice will prevail because the Almighty opposes the evil spirits no matter who is on the other end. People choose who they want to serve, even if they are not with Him.
