In Proverbs, chapter twenty-eight, verse five, “Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.” It is essential to any reformation or revival among God’s people to seek the Lord, as also emphasized in Second Chronicles seven, verse fourteen, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” The word “seek” is used several times in this section of the Chronicles alone and thirty times altogether to illustrate the severity for believers who do so will reap what they sow when seeking Him. The Other passages are in verse seven of Second Chronicles fourteen, verses two, four, twelve, thirteen, and fifteen, of chapter fifteen, and Second Chronicles sixteen, verse twelve, respectively.
To ‘seek” means to desire and pursue earnestly the Lord’s presence, fellowship, kingdom, and holiness. Seeking the Lord involves turning to the Lord with a whole heart and in fervent prayer, hungering and thirsting for righteousness and God’s presence, committing firmly to do God’s will and abandoning all actions that offend God, believing and relying on God as your ultimate helper. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him,” as in Hebrews eleven, verse six.
Seeking the Lord has extraordinary results: those who do so experience peace and the rest of God. The seeker will encounter forgiveness from Him, a clear conscience, spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional well-being that comes from a growing, life-giving relationship with God, His mercy, grace, help in times of need, and His divine presence.
