In Psalms, chapter ninety-nine, verse three, although God is holy and to be feared, as in verses one through two, He has come down to us through Jesus Christ. He seeks our fellowship and delights in hearing and answering the prayers of His people. Moses, Aaron, and Samuel had a special relationship with God through the intercessory prayers.
Moses had several intercessory prayers, particularly for the Israelites, the people of God. The first is the golden calf incident in Exodus thirty-two when the children of Israel were impatiently waiting for Moses to come out of the mount in verse one. In verses ten through thirteen of Exodus thirty-two, Moses’ intercessory prayer begins with why God is so mad and concerned with His reputation if He were to discipline the Israelites after the deliverance from Egypt.
The other notable intercessory prayer from Moses is in Numbers fourteen, verses thirteen through nineteen, concerning the report. Moses interceded for the Israelites when they doubted God’s promise after hearing the report from the spies. The rebellion of Korah in Numbers sixteen, verses twenty through twenty-two, in which Moses’ prayer saved the rest of the Israelites from being consumed by God’s wrath during Korah’s rebellion.
Aaron’s intercession occurs in Numbers sixteen, verses forty-six to forty-eight, “And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun. And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stayed.”
Samuel is other in First Samuel seven, verse five, “And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.” The two servants, although they did not specify what they prayed, show the pivotal role they had for God’s people.
