In Nehemiah, chapter eight, verse six, this section describes one of the utmost worship services of all time. God desires the adoration of His people and calls them to worship Him regularly, as in Psalms twenty-nine, verse two, and chapter ninety-six, verse nine.
Ezra blessed the Lord as an acknowledgment of praise to Jehovah, the Great God, as the Levites, probably under his direction, as in Nehemiah nine, verse five, and as David began his last address with a sentence of thanksgiving to the congregation in First Chronicles twenty-nine, verse ten, but scarcely by using a whole psalm, as in First Chronicles sixteen, verse eight. To this thanksgiving, the people answered Amen, Amen, similar to First Chronicles sixteen, verse thirty-six, lifting their hands and worshipping the Lord, bowing down towards the ground.
For believers, the service begins with us receiving salvation through Jesus Christ. We are here to serve Him in spirit and truth. “Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing,” as in Psalms one hundred, verse two. However, followers of Christ must realize when we worship God, it is our spirit that is in contact with God. The flesh does not desire to praise God, but if we allow the inner person to be the leader, it will not be difficult to worship God.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth, as in John four, verse twenty-four. “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him,” as in John four, verse twenty. The loyal worshippers of God will be the ones who have their inner person leading the way instead of the flesh. “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God,” as in Luke eighteen, verse twenty-seven.
