In Ecclesiastes, chapter five, verse eight, “If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.” Observing again the oppression of the poor and the prevailing lack of justice, Solomon reminds the oppressors that God is the highest judge. He is above everyone, and He will give the final verdict on the judgment day.
The theme title, “There be higher than they,” depicts those who are in positions to do injustice to those who deserve justice will have a definite encounter with God when their time comes. They do not realize that when they reach the end of life, God awaits to judge them according to their deeds, whether good or bad. Second Corinthians five, verse ten, declares, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”
For believers, we must be mindful of how we operate within our environment, so that we do not do injustice to people when we have the power to make the righteous choice at any given moment. Nothing should be taken for granted because our actions speak louder than our words, and a small gesture towards someone may change the course of their lives, whether we are present or not. Therefore, believers, all that we do must be in love.
The ones in positions that rule over countries and people do not always do the right thing for the nation, partly because they are thinking of themselves. However, God seems to counter their action in different ways that they don’t understand.
