In Proverbs, chapter twenty-nine, verse seven, “The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.” Concern for the indigent and needy as disclosed to the people of God as God’s standard of righteousness under the old covenant. As the previous theme from Proverbs twenty-eight verse twenty-seven, God will take care of those who help the unfortunate and cater to their physical and spiritual needs. However, do believers consider a person they see asking for help?
The true followers of Christ today will likewise share His concern that the poor are treated fairly and compassionately. And that they have the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel of the kingdom with its various blessings. First John three, verse seventeen declares, “But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” Those believers who consider the poor manifest God’s love within them. However, suppose a godly or ungodly person does not want to give to the unfortunate. It is entirely up to them, and nobody should be forced or pressured into doing so. Still, giving to those in need should be a free decision. Nevertheless, it is not easy for anyone to contribute something that is rightfully yours.
Jesus, the Son of God, gave His life for all humanity to have the opportunity to embrace eternal life. God did not have to do so, but He considereth His creation. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God knows all things and foresees what lies ahead for those who accept Him through His Son, the Savior, Jesus Christ.
