The Lord reigneth

In Psalms, chapter ninety-seven, verses one through twelve, the psalm describes the four elements of God’s kingdom: righteousness and justice as the foundation of His throne, as in verse two, His ruling power over all the earth, as in verses one to six, and verse nine, His victory over false gods in verse seven, and the subsequent joy of the righteous, as in verses eight through twelve, respectively. It prophesies the ultimate revelation of Christ and His kingdom rule at the end of history, as in Revelation chapters nineteen through twenty-two. This event will call forth great joy among the redeemed in Isaiah twenty-five, verse nine, and Revelation eleven, verses fifteen through seventeen, chapter eighteen, verse twenty, and chapter nineteen, verses one to three.

The theme under The Lord’s Power and Dominion depicts how God the Almighty reigns. The Old Testament from Exodus fifteen, verse eighteen, declares, “The LORD shall reign forever and ever.” This verse comes after The Song of Moses at the beginning of the chapter when God’s servant and the Israelites sang, “I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.” The children of Israel sing to the Lord, celebrating the triumph over their enemies. The Israelites were in bondage for four hundred years, as in Genesis fifteen, verse thirteen.

The Lord reigneth because “The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name, as in verse three. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea” as in verse four. “Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? He takes people from darkness to light.”
