The Lord lifteth up the meek

In Psalms, chapter one hundred and forty-seven, verse six, the word “meek” often includes the idea of suffering and refers to those afflicted. Because such people cannot cope with life’s problems and responsibilities themselves. In humility, they call upon God for His help and strength. God lifts the meek and gives them support. The psalmist assures them of God’s help and ultimate victory, as in Psalms twenty-two, verse six, chapters twenty-five, verse nine, and thirty-seven, verse eleven, respectively.

As God supported the meek in Old Testament times, Jesus ministers to the afflicted and humble under the new covenant, as in Matthew eleven, verses twenty-eight through thirty, Isaiah eleven, verse four, chapter twenty-nine, verse nineteen, and Zephaniah two, verse three, accordingly. Since God delights in those who are of humble spirit, all believers should earnestly pray for a spirit of humility so that they may please Him, as in Galatians five, verse twenty-three, Ephesians four, verse two, Colossians three, verse twelve, and Titus three, verse two, respectively.

The theme verse under The Might and Grace of the Lord section prompts believers to have a steady and ready heart toward the Almighty God. The verse before the theme, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.” The several verses within the theme indicate His greatness. In verse three of the theme chapter, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. In verse four, He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names.

Other verses, as in verse eight, “Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.” In verse nine, “He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. These examples should encourage believers.
