In Psalms, chapter hundred and eighteen, verse six, those who take refuge in the Lord are assured that He is for them and with them to give help and strength, as in Psalms seven, verse fourteen, Joshua one, verse nine, and Jeremiah one, verse eight.
The Lord gave the personal name, “1 AM THAT I AM. However, the title is a Hebrew phrase that indicates action. God is known to be present and active. Inherent in the name Yahweh is the promise of the daily living presence of God Himself with His people. It expresses His faithful love, care, and desire to redeem His people and live in fellowship with them. The correspondence with the fundamental promise of the covenant in Genesis seventeen, verse seven, “And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”
The very essence and reality of God giving Himself to His people through His Son, Jesus Christ, by acceptance of salvation to become a part of the family. God’s promise “to be a God unto thee” is the best privilege in all Scripture. It is the first and fundamental promise on which all other promises rest. It means that God unreservedly binds Himself to His faithful people to be their God, shield, and their reward. It also means that God’s grace, pardon, promises, protection, guidance, goodness, help, and blessing given by Him in love.
