The gift of God

In Ecclesiastes, chapter three, verse thirteen, the ability to enjoy life and live it properly is a gift from God that comes only when we are brought into a right relationship with Him and sincerely submit ourselves to Him as our Lord and God. He then gives us joy in what we do.

John twelve, verse twenty-five, states, “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” Hating one’s own life means the attitude that values heavenly interests far above those of this earth. Those who follow Christ place little importance on the pleasures, philosophies, successes, values, goals, or ways of the world. Such persons in the end gain “life eternal,” as they count nothing in this world so dear to them that they will give it up for the sake of the Lord.

For example, in Second Chronicles one, verse seven, “In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.” The response from David’s son, in verse ten of the same chapter, “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?” The reply in verse eleven, “And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself.” “Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour.” His heart was on something that would please God and enable his spirit to connect with God. The things of God, not the world.
