the dimness shall not be such

In Isaiah, chapter nine, verses one through seven, Isaiah speaks of a coming deliverer who would one day lead God’s people to joy, peace, happiness, righteousness, and justice; this person is the Messiah: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The prophecy reveals several important truths about the coming Messiah. For the most part, He would minister in Galilee, as in verse one, and Matthew four, verses thirteen to fourteen. He would bring the light of Salvation and hope, as in verse two, Isaiah forty-two, verse six, Isaiah forty-nine, verse six, and Matthew four, verses fifteen to sixteen. He would enlarge the community of God’s people, primarily by the inclusion of the Gentiles in the household of faith, as in verse three, Acts fifteen, verses thirteen to eighteen.
The Son of God would bring peace by delivering His people from the yoke of oppression and crushing their enemies in verses four to five. The Messiah would come from the nation of Israel and be called Wonderful, Counsellor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. He would rule over God’s people forever.
Isaiah describes the five names that would characterize His function as the Messiah. Wonderful: The Messiah would be a supernatural wonder. He would show the character, deeds, and miracles. Counsellor. The Messiah would be the incarnation of perfect wisdom and have words of eternal life. As Counsellor, He would disclose the perfect plan of salvation. Mighty God. In the Messiah, all the fullness of the Deity would exist in bodily form. Everlasting Father. He would not only come to reveal Heavenly Father, but He Himself would act toward His people eternally as a compassionate Father who loves, protects, and supplies the needs of the children. Prince of Peace. His rule would bring peace with God for humankind through deliverance from sin and death.
