the city of our God

In Psalms, chapter forty-eight, verse one, the city of our God and the Great King, as in verse two, is Jerusalem in Matthew five, verse thirty-five. It will be established “forever,” as in verse eight. What God began in the Old Testament, He will complete in the New Jerusalem at the end of the ages, as in Revelation twenty-one, verse ten through chapter twenty-two, verse five.

The City of our God is the title of this theme, which is under the A Song to Mount Zion section. The first two verses are a famous hymn song sung in churches today. This was a song and a psalm for the sons of Korah.

Great is the LORD,

and greatly to be praised

in the city of our God,

in the mountain of his holiness.

Beautiful for situation,

the joy of the whole earth,

is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north,

the city of the great King.

The city we are in today has been contaminated with sin, and evil runs rampant within the environment. For believers, our mission is to be a godly light within our city, not physically but spiritually. The salvation of Jesus Christ within us will shine in this dark world for all to see and accept Him. However, the challenge and opposition intend to raise havoc toward the godly by using the ungodly and rebellious to counter the truth of God and His Word. Still, the saints of God are servants and must be examples of Matthew ten, verse sixteen. “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

The believer’s mission is to get all people into that future City of God with His guidance and direction. God is love, and that will be the way and approach for believers to reach unbelievers through prayer with the help of the Holy Spirit. The enemy will attempt to derail God’s plan with things and conflict, but we must be wise and harmless, as previously mentioned in Matthew ten, verse six.
