So dieth the other

In Ecclesiastes, chapter three, verse nineteen, “For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.” Biologically, humans die just like animals; this fact shows our weakness and frailty and should cause us to fear and obey God, as in chapter twelve, verse thirteen, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

The theme verse under the vanity of all life section ends with “for all is vanity.” This part of the scripture has been the entire theme of Ecclesiastes. All of our activities are meaningless and purposeless on earth when carried out apart from God’s will, His fellowship, and His loving activity in our lives. Creation itself is subject ot vanity and corruption. The truth of the matter is this: we all come and go in this life. However, life apart from God has no meaning and cannot produce true happiness.

There are two sets of people living on the earth today. Believers and unbelievers. Those who serve the Lord Jesus Christ are the believers, and those who reject Him are the unbelievers. Unbelievers who live may serve other things or other gods. Everyone is free to serve whom they choose. People who live in Christ and pass away later in life will go to be with God the Father in Heaven, and also will meet Jesus.

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him,” as in John three, verse thirty-six.
