In Exodus chapter thirty-three, verse thirteen, Moses responds to God about Him not continuing with His people to the promised land. He briefly explains to God regarding the journey up to this point with the Israelites and asks if He could show him the way. Moses recalls following in obedience when God gave him instruction from the beginning to lead the people out of Egypt, and now wonders why He wants to send an angel and not continue with them. Moses reminds God that this nation is His people. However, God mentions earlier in verse five that they are a stiffnecked people and expect them to live according to His ways by now.
Moses again intervenes for the people because God has brought them a mighty long way and expects Him to finish the mission with the Israelites to see them into the promised land. God’s love for His people runs deep because what if we stop for a minute and think about what He did for them? If we look at the situation from God’s perspective, the things He has done for them, we would probably not tolerate their behavior at this point. God brought the Israelites out of Egypt through His servant Moses. He shows His power by performing the ten plagues upon the Egyptians for them to surrender and allow them to leave. Divide the Red Sea so the Israelites could pass and undivided the waters to flush out the pursuit of Pharoah’s men on chariots.
Today, we may be in a situation like Moses, endeavoring to lead our family, friends, and loved ones to the promised land. However, we may be having a battle on our hands with Egyptian-like opposition attempting to sway our family from not knowing the truth and not receiving salvation. We must continue to intervene on behalf of the people we love and ask God to show us His way that we must go according to His will and not ours.
