Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

In Psalms, chapter sixty-four, verses one through ten, the psalmist prays to God for protection from plots and deception of enemies. We can apply this prayer to our spiritual battles with Satan. We must pray for protection from the evil one and those he uses against us. In these struggles, we can be confident of God’s saving actions on our behalf, as in verses nine to ten.

All believers are the focus objects of Satan’s enmity and evil purpose. For this reason, we must never forget to pray for deliverance from his power and schemes. Saints of God should commit themselves to radical obedience, prayer, righteousness, the Word, and being filled with the Holy Spirit. Even under these circumstances, Satan does not stop but continues as a never-ending menace. There is safety from sin and Satan only by commitment to Christ and by using all the means of grace available through Christ.

Believers must persevere in prayer about all matters until Jesus returns. In this life, we have an adversary, Satan. Prayer can protect from the evil one. In our prayers, we should cry out against sin and for justice. Persistent prayer is known as faith. In the final days before Christ’s return, there will be increased evil opposition to the prayers of the faithful. Because of Satan and the pleasures of the world, many will cease to persevere in prayer.

The theme chapter under the Appeal for Aid against Enemies section expresses the psalmist’s concern for those who oppose them. The enemy uses unbelievers, the ungodly, and even lukewarm Christians against godly people with their attitudes, actions, and words. However, believers who depend upon God to protect them should fight back in prayer, calling upon God’s power to overthrow the enemy’s plan. Saints of God cannot hesitate to pray and call upon God. The devil does not break in devising mischief, and we should not take it easy in praying when something arises against us.
