One chosen out of the people

In Psalms, chapter eighty-nine, verses nineteen through thirty-seven, the psalmist reminds God of His election of David’s line to rule over Israel and of His promise that David’s dynasty would endure forever, as in verses twenty-seven through twenty-nine despite Israel’s unfaithfulness.

The theme title is “One Chosen out of the People.”  God sees the heart of every human, including all believers. The Lord always finds someone out of His people to lead the rest back to Him where they first received and believed. In the Old Testament, the first encounter begins with Noah. The flood was coming, and the hearts of men were evil, and the servant of God found grace in the eyes of the Lord in Genesis six, verse eight, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

The other chosen was Joseph in the land of Egypt. Through the servant of God, his life journey from the land he left to experience suffering turns out that the Lord saved him, his family, and Egypt from a food famine that would have been tragic for all. Another chosen person was Moses, leader of the Israelites, out of the bondage of Egypt. Then, there is Joshua and the walls of Jericho. There are many other instances involving godly men who God raised for His will and purpose.

One chosen out of the people is the God-fearing servant willing to serve the Lord in spirit and truth, as in John four, verse twenty-four. To be called by God is the one with the heart that will come out from among the ungodly, as in Second Corinthians six, verse seventeen. There is always someone the Lord will find with the heart to lead His people out of darkness into His light. It is the servant who loves God and obeys His Word.
