Now mine eye seeth thee

In Job, chapter forty-two, verse five, the servant of God had earlier prayed to see his Redeemer, as in chapter nineteen, verse twenty-seven: now that longing is complete. The Lord’s words and presence brought Job a greater revelation of God’s ways and character. Through this personal experience, Job’s transformation by a sense of forgiveness, a renewed confidence in God’s goodness, and a reassuring experience of His love. God’s appearance to Job was a vindication of Job’s uprightness, and it is an assurance to all faithful believers that the Lord will accept our sincere questions when we are undergoing unexplained adversity and suffering. God is patient with His own and sympathizes with our weaknesses, misunderstandings, and anger, as in Hebrews four, verse fifteen. As with Job, if we endure, God will manifest His presence and express and extend His care for us.

After the Lord had spoken to Job in chapters thirty-eight through to the end of forty-one, the servant of God began to realize how wrong he was in his approach concerning his circumstance. During the response of God, Job’s understanding comes to light as he listens to what the Lord is saying. Initially, Job could not see why this experience that he went through was happening. Logically, from the physical perspective, it did not make sense or expect this in his life.

Today, believers will undergo various situations in life that may not seem to make any sense or see the pattern of this coming forward into their lives. The natural response would be to question God or complain and expect an explanation. However, like Job, God did not tell him why but only asked this in chapter thirty-eight, verse four before He continued speaking to His servant, “Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.” Can you answer this question?
