My ways directed to keep thy statutes

In Psalms hundred and nineteen, verse five, believers should ask God continually for the grace needed to follow His will and be steadfast in His ways. Such a petition is necessary because we cannot remain faithful to God’s laws without His sustaining help and the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts.
The theme verse, “O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!” Our ways will not receive direction from Him unless revealed in His way. The first four verses of this theme chapter mention the undefiled who has a majestic love for God’s written Word, those who live by the scriptures, keep His commandments, acknowledge them as a requirement, realize that this is God’s way, and pay attention in detail. However, if believers do not ask for God’s mercy daily to have His way in our lives, how would our way be the same as the Lord’s?
Statutes here do not refer to artwork made of wood or stone. But remember the examples in scripture. That is why meditating on and memorizing various verses in the Bible is beneficial to believers: Situations will arise in life, and we will need to use His Word to shun or cancel whatever evil plan the enemy has against us. Jesus in the wilderness used the Word against the devil three times in Matthew four, verses four, seven, and ten, respectively. Reading this portion of scripture will show how the enemy monitors those who desire to serve the Lord in spirit and truth because this situation for the Son of God occurred right after His baptism in Matthew three, verses thirteen through seventeen. Therefore, this example shows believers to have the Word internally and be ready for anything, especially after something good happens. What is resting in our hearts today?
