My goodness extendeth not

In Psalms, chapter sixteen, verse two, the psalmist sees no meaning in life or personal happiness apart from God. Nothing in his life is good without the presence of the Lord, and blessings are not in it. The theme verse is under the Joy in God’s Presence section, which illustrates the psalmist’s soul expressing the value of life with Christ inside instead of not having Him. In Galatians two, verse twenty connects with the theme. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

The description of the relationship with Christ in terms of a profound personal attachment to and reliance on the Lord will only be present in believers whose hearts are daily devoted to Him. Those who have faith in Christ live in intimate union with their Lord in His death and resurrection. All believers have been crucified with Christ on the cross, in that they have died to the law as a means of salvation and now live through Christ for God. Because of salvation in Christ, sin no longer has control over them.

Therefore, believers who grow and have a deep relationship with the Lord will discover that certain earthly things that were once of extreme value and importance no longer have such an impact. They are more sensitive to protection from sin and more devoted to the spiritual things of God. The believer has the inner person leading instead of the flesh, which causes the individual to be sensitive to cling to the godly instead of the ungodly. God knows the hearts of those living in that pathway of righteousness to please Him.
