Make me understand thy precepts

In Psalms hundred nineteen, verse twenty-seven, God’s Word can only be understood fully with His help, as in verses here in twenty-six, the theme verse, and twenty-nine of this chapter. Therefore, we should continually pray to God by His Holy Spirit to draw near to us, to increase our understanding, and to teach us His truth. Understanding the precepts defined as a law, a rule of behavior, and how a believer should act begins with the “Spirit of truth.” The Holy Spirit is the one because He is the Spirit of Jesus, who is the truth, as in John eighteen, verse thirty-seven, enlightens concerning the truth, exposes untruth, as in John sixteen, verse eight, and guides the believer into all truth, as in John sixteen, verse thirteen.
Those willing to sacrifice truth for unity, love, or any other reason deny the Spirit of truth, whom they claim lives in them. The church that abandons the truth abandons its Lord. The Holy Spirit will not be the Counselor of those indifferent to the faith or halfhearted in their commitment to the truth. He comes only to those who worship the Lord “in Spirit and truth,” as in John four, verse twenty-four.
As believers abide in Christ and submit to the Word of God, the Spirit helps us understand its redemptive truths and draw upon its life. However, knowing precepts in terms of law, how to act, and conduct is not enough because the Holy Spirit is the one that will enable the saints of God to establish a life of righteousness. Knowing about the Holy Spirit and having Him are different. The Spirit of truth must manifest within a believer to keep away other spirits from invading. Those without the Spirit of God will not survive spiritually against the evil one.
