In First Chronicles, chapter sixteen, verse ten, is one part of a psalm that David celebrated that begins from verses eight through thirty-six. Our happiness, security, and freedom from anxiety depend on our gratitude to God and our perseverance in seeking His face daily, as in verses eight through eleven. Those who continually call out to the Lord with thanksgiving can have confidence that He will walk by their side and help them throughout life, as in Psalms forty-six, verse one.
On that day David delivered first this psalm among the other preparations for this solemn inauguration, the royal poet had composed a special hymn for the occasion. Doubtless, it had been previously in the hands of Asaph and his assistants, but it was now publicly committed to them as they entered for the first time on the performance of their sacred duties. This verse with the psalm occupies the greater part of this chapter and seems to have been compiled from other psalms of David, previously known to the Israelites, as the whole of it will be found, with very slight variations, in Psalms ninety-six, one to thirteen, chapter one-hundred and five, verses one through fifteen, chapter one-hundred and six, verses forty-seven and forty-eight, respectively. In the form, however, in which it is given by the sacred historian, it seems to have been the first psalm given for use in the Tabernacle service.
Praise to God for the revelation of His glorious character and the display of His marvelous works should always be on the lips of the saints. Whether it be large or small, the attitude of the people of God should be so because without Him all of His people would be lost. However, due to natural circumstances, believers tend to focus on the things within the moment and at times forget that God is the one who is guiding us even when we do not realize.
