Lendeth unto the Lord

In Proverbs, chapter nineteen, verse seventeen, graciously giving of what we have to help the poor is a way of serving the Lord. He will repay those who do this. God sees the heart of every living being that He has made in His image. The Lord also knows if the giving is done in sincerity or with selfish motives. “Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto,” as in Deuteronomy fifteen, verse ten.

The passionate giver who gives to those who are in need touches the heart of God because they give freely or generously without second-guessing or hesitation. There are no conditions attached, but only the desire to see the needy person receive what they ask for. “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty,” as in Proverbs eleven, verse twenty-four. And Psalms one hundred and twelve, verse nine, says, “He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.”

God instructs us to give and conditions His people by His Word to obey, as in Luke six, verse thirty-five.”But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.” The Lord takes it personally when a believer gives to someone in need, as in Mathew twenty-five, verse thirty-five through forty.

“For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
