Joshua speaks to the Lord

In Joshua, chapter ten, verse twelve, Moses’ successor prayed for a miracle, and God answered His prayer. As believers, we should not hesitate to pray that the Lord would work extraordinary ways on our behalf. God people live in an evil and hostile world. Therefore we face such challenges and difficulties that miracles are sometimes needed to fulfill His plans and purposes in our lives.

Joshua, out of zeal to destroy God’s enemies, directed by the motion of God’s Spirit, and being filled with holy confidence, that what he said would be accomplished. He spake this in the presence and audience of all Israel that they might be witnesses of the fact. Joshua does not speak according to the terms of modern astronomy, which would have been highly improper for him to have done. They would not understand but speak according to the appearance of things.

The sun appeared to the Israelites over Gibeon, and the moon was over the valley of Ajalon, which we may suppose to situate in a different direction. And there, in the name of God, he commanded them to continue to appear, which they did for whole day.

Today, believers should consider and follow the example of Joshua. He saw the situation and depended upon God by calling out the position boldly in faith and leaving the rest to God to work on his behalf. We as believers must do the same with whatever obstacles seem impossible in our lives to boldly call them out with our dependence upon God to create a miracle on our behalf by His Word. The problem sometimes is with us when we hold back instead of letting go and letting God’s Word come out of our mouths. We firmly speak the Word of God in faith, and the Lord will take care of the rest. God honors His Word above His name. However, we must be careful not to say the word positively, and then heart and mind are negative.
