In the last days

In Isaiah, chapter two, verse two, “And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.” The New Testament defines the last days as a period of time between the first and second comings of Christ. In the Old Testament, “the last days” were considered a time when the Lord would act in a mighty way to judge evil and bring salvation to His people. The New Testament reveals that “the last days” began with the first coming of Christ and the initial outpouring of the Spirit on God’s people, and that the last days will end with the Lord’s second coming.
These “last days” will be carried on by the power of the Spirit, as in Matthew twelve, verse twenty-eight. Involve the invasion of God’s power through Christ in the realm of Satan and sin. The second-coming will bring to an end the activity of evil forces and constitute a time of prophetic witness, calling everyone to repent, believe in Christ, and experience the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah prophesies of a time when God’s rule will be established over all the earth, as in Micah four, verses one to three. All evil, injustice, and rebellion directed against God and His law will be put down, and righteousness will reign. “All nations,” God’s chosen people and others, will worship and serve the Lord. This prophecy reflects God’s final purpose for His people and the human race. It is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who executes justice and righteousness on the earth, as in chapter nine, verses one through seven, and chapter eleven, verses three to five, respectively.
