In Psalms, chapter seventy-five, verse eight, the picture of God giving the wicked an intoxicating drink is used in Scripture as a symbol of His wrath and punishment. David states: “Thou has made us drink the wine of astonishment,” the wine that staggers, as in Psalms sixty, verse three, Isaiah fifty-one, verses seventeen and twenty-two, Jeremiah fifty-one, verse seven, and Revelation fourteen, verse ten, respectively.
The theme verse under The Justice of God depicts the Lord dealing with the wicked who cause injustice to the victims and the innocent. In verse seven, before the theme, “But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” Those who continue to do evil, especially against the people of God who serve Him in Spirit and truth, will be addressed by Him for their evil activity at some point. For God’s time is the right time.
David and Goliath in First Samuel seventeen is an example of the justice of God. In verse four, “And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath.” This giant declares who he is and causes fear among the Israelites. No one came forward to face this giant except for David, a servant of God. In verse thirty-seven of the same chapter, “David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.”
The theme verse states, ” In the hand of the Lord is a cup.” However, the verse also demonstrates that God’s people are in His hands. The giant Goliath saw David, “And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. The giant continues in verse forty-four, “And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.” The rest of the chapter continues as David defeats Goliath by the hand of God through his sling and stone and uses the giant’s sword against Him.
