Honor the Lord with thy substance

In Psalms, chapter three, verse nine, the Israelites brought the first portion of their harvest to the Lord to acknowledge that he was the owner of the Land, as in Leviticus twenty-three, verse ten, chapter twenty-five, verse twenty-three, and Numbers eighteen, verses twelve to thirteen, respectively. We also should give God the first fruits of our income to honor Him as Lord of our lives and possessions. God will then open the way and pour His blessing upon us as part of First Samuel two, verse thirty, “For them that honor me I will honor.” This part of scripture is God’s promise to all who faithfully and generously give of their finances.

God expects His people to demonstrate their love for and devotion to Him and His work by giving tithes and offerings to further His Kingdom. The blessings accompanied by faithful financial giving will come in this life and the hereafter. Christians can either give generously or sparingly. God will reward them accordingly.

The Apostle Paul mentions that giving is not a loss but a form of saving; it results in substantial benefits for those who give. He is not speaking primarily of the quantity given but of the quality of our heart’s desires and motives.

Jesus gives an example in a lesson in The Widow’s offering from Matthew twenty-one, verses one through four. The Son of God describes how God evaluates giving since things are not as they seem on the surface. The significance of a person’s gift is determined not by the amount they offer but by the measure of sacrifice involved in the giving. However, if a minister declares how much to give, this is not from God. In the Holy Scriptures, God does not declare how much an offerer gives but to offer in love.
