In Psalms, chapter one hundred and six, verses one through forty-eight, this psalm recounts Israel’s recurring rebellion and apostasy concerning God’s Word and ways. The psalmist confesses their sins and unfaithfulness and prays that God will again visit His repentant people with renewed salvation and blessings. God’s people should individually and collectively confess their shortcomings before the Lord. When we recognize our spiritual failure and repent, the opportunity for revival and reformation can occur.
The theme chapter under God’s Mercy to Israel explains how God continually helps His people in many difficult situations in their journey to freedom for a better life, while most of them did not change or show their gratitude in the end, where only a few survived to reach the promised land. The theme title, “His mercy endureth forever,” is about the love of God for His people and how He endeavors for them to understand how important it is for them to walk in His ways, keep His commandments, and honor His servants. However, the decision and discretion rest upon them to follow the right way or not. At the beginning of the theme in verse one, “Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.” Reminding all to praise and be thankful to the Lord during their life journey of salvation.
The downfall of most of the chosen people of God was they complained about their situation instead of praising Him. Although this is not easy to do at times, the Israelites quickly forgot what the Lord had done for them in the past. They would have never gotten to where they are now if He did not help their cause. All believers should recognize that God is merciful and His grace is sufficient.
