In Proverbs, chapter twenty-eight, verse twenty-seven, “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack,” is the beginning of this theme verse. God will take care of those who help the poor and needy. The blessings of God abound to those who give to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of others. Some will give from their abundance, which is good. However, it is not as effective as those who contribute, who do not have much but do it from their heart, which is love.
Other scriptures from Proverbs from chapter eleven, verse twenty-four, “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.” There are those givers who give and receive back more than they hand out, as God promised. However, some provide to others half-heartedly and not with sincerity. Therefore, God sees the hearts of those people, and they receive nothing. Giving grudgingly or with complaint is noticed by the Lord, and the contribution from those people will profit nothing.
Imagine hearing private feedback from someone who gives to you? To see that they had an attitude and were negative, most receivers would turn around and give back the gift. For believers, this would not be the way to conduct ourselves as children of God. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver,” as in Second Corinthians nine, verse seven. God is pleased when His people are kind and generous and blesses them accordingly.
Believers must remember this: We belong to God, and what we have is held as a trust for our Lord. Servants of God must make the basic decision to serve God, and not money. Called mammon.
