In Psalms, chapter ninety-one, verse fourteen, the Lord Himself addresses His faithful followers. Because they love Him, He promises to aid them during trouble. The secret of receiving God’s protective care is a heart intimately attached to the Lord in gratitude and affection. He knows who such believers are, and He will be with them in trouble, hear their prayers, and give them lives full of his divine presence and provision.
God will grant answered prayer in His name, as in John fourteen, verse fourteen. Prayer involves at least two things: praying in harmony with His nature, character, and will, praying with faith in Him and His authority, and praying with the desire to glorify both the Father and the Son, as in Acts three, verse sixteen. Praying in the name of Jesus means that Jesus will answer any prayer that he would have prayed Himself. There is no limit to the power of prayer when addressed to Jesus or the Father in holy faith according to the desire.
Jesus will ask the Father to give the counselor only to those serious about their love for Him and devotion to His Word. Jesus uses the present tense in John fourteen, verse fifteen, emphasizing a continuing attitude of love and obedience. This continuous affection will enable believers to meet the conditions by which we remain in Christ: keeping God’s Word continually in our hearts and minds to help guide our actions, maintaining the habit of constant intimate communion with Christ in order to draw strength from Him. Obeying His commandments, remaining in His love, and loving each other. And the keeping our lives clean through the Word, resisting all sin, and yielding to the Spirit’s direction, as in John seventeen, verse seventeen, Romans eight, verse fourteen, and Ephesians five, verse twenty-six.
