In Psalms, chapter one hundred twenty-seven, verse two, God’s will is for us to enjoy a peaceful sleep and an anxiety-free life. The scripture also implies that God keeps giving even when we are asleep. Well, the question is, how does a person enjoy a quiet rest and a worry-free life?
In Matthew six, verses twenty-five through thirty-four give the solution to restful nights and a worry-free lifestyle. Christ’s Sermon on the Mount contains a revelation of God’s principles of righteousness by which all believers are to live through faith in the Son of God and the power of the indwelling Spirit.
The first thing Christians should think about in verse twenty-five of Matthew six is to give no thought to whatever would cause a concern. Jesus does not mean to show no care. However, a believer should avoid overthinking. Dwelling on something too early to the point of not sleeping at the appointed time. However, which of you, by taking thought, can add one cubit unto his stature?
In verses twenty-five, thirty-one, and thirty-four of Matthew six, Jesus tells the people three times to “take no thought.” Jesus mentions life in the first, food and clothes next, and third, about tomorrow. Believers should not ponder upcoming situations but depend on God, similar to the birds in the air and the flowers that grow. Today, we see birds flying around us and flowers growing freely outside during their season. God provided for them to prosper during their season and off-season.
Believers who can “sleep sweet” faithfully, believe, and trust God to care for their lives and provide their food and clothing also know that He holds tomorrow. The Lord gives His beloved sleep because He knows from the inside and out that they are living as dependents on the Lord.
