In Exodus chapter thirty-three, verse seventeen, God answered Moses’ prayer because He respected him, considered him a friend, and was pleased with Him. Moses found favor even though Aaron and the nation disobeyed God: he remained loyal to the Lord and mediated between the Lord and Israel.
The Lord said to Moses, “I will do this thing that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.” God got to see how His servant lived before Him in truth and obedience and did not waiver when his people sinned against God and how he dealt with the situation. When Moses was on the mountain with God, He told him the people had done wrong and must go now and address the people. Immediately, the servant of God addresses Aaron and then stands in righteousness to declare, “who is on the Lord’s side?” Boldly, in righteous anger, threw down the tables of stone and carried out the godly discipline as instructed.
On the other side of Moses, on how he found grace in God’s sight is he stood up for God even when the others around initially did not. God knew Him by name because of the faith he demonstrated throughout the time of the mission he began until now. At the beginning of the plan to carry out the will of God to deliver the Israelites, Moses started in Egypt. The place where he grew up. After growing into a young man, Moses defends a Hebrew by killing the Egyptian who was doing wrong against his fellow man. He escaped and came back with Aaron, his brother, working on Pharoah through God to let the Israelites go putting himself at risk for the sake of doing God’s will.
Today, we can find grace in the sight of God by just being honest with Him. Moses did please God with the situation he faced, but we can please Him with ours too. We can stand loyal to God even when friends and family may not. At the same time, be a mediator between the people we know and God to help them get to know Him through prayer. We can do these things to obtain grace and favor in the sight of God.
