In Psalms, chapter sixty-seven, verses one through two, the Psalms remind us of God’s plan for His people when He first called Abraham, as in Genesis twelve, verse one. Abram was his name at that time, and untold where God would lead him, as in Hebrews eleven, verse eight. Instead, he had to journey under direct guidance from the Lord. God chose this man so that God and His redemptive love might become known to these nations through his descendants. He intended that Israel’s reception and enjoyment of His grace and blessings would cause the heathen nations to take notice so that they might praise Him and accept His ways of truth and righteousness.
New Testament believers should pray that God will bless them and their families with His presence, love, grace, guidance, salvation, healing power, and fullness of the Spirit so that the lost might seek Christ’s truth and salvation, as in Matthew five, verses fourteen through sixteen. The key to effective evangelism and mission work is the blessing of God richly poured out on His people. This blessing describes the New Testament as the promised Holy Spirit, as in Galatians two, verse fourteen, sent forth by the Father into our hearts, as in Galatians four, verse six. Through His Spirit living within us and empowering our lives and witness, the proclamation to the nations will achieve its desired results, as in Acts one, verse eight.
The theme verse under God governs the nations expresses the believer’s request for God to be with them and for the world to see the Lord through them. For this desire to occur will require obedience. The instruction of God’s Word to demonstrate through the believer’s heart is the only way for God to be present in the servant’s life. We serve God.
