In Psalms, chapter seventy-eight, verse one, the psalm was written to remind God’s chosen people why so many devastating judgments of God came upon them throughout history. The song warns them to learn from the spiritual failures of their forefathers and to strive diligently to avoid the same unbelief and unfaithfulness. God’s people today should pay close attention to this psalm since many churches and denominations have lost the presence and power of God through unbelief and disobedience to His Word. By failing to make Biblical standards and experience the basis for truth and practice, they have gradually gone astray and turned to their ways.
The theme under God’s Guidance for His People section depicts the children of God in the Old Testament and followers today in the New Testament who have such calamitous experiences from the Almighty One due to a lack of following His instruction from His Word. The old saying, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink,” holds in society with many who hear about God but fail to know Him or obey His Word. Why do people today find themselves in situations that are not what they expected out of life so far? A word. They heard something which was appealing to them and followed after it.
Give Ear to My Law is the heading for this theme. People who listen and allow what comes through their “ear gates” will eventually impact their lives without them knowing it. A simple word from anyone could attract them to do the wrong thing and draw them away from the upbringing of their family environment. The Word of God guides all to receive salvation through Jesus Christ. However, the random words people receive from the world could lead them away from knowing Him.
