In Proverbs, chapter four, verse thirteen, wisdom brings life and is life. To live as God has designed brings a good and joyful life, as in Proverbs fifteen, verses twenty-three and twenty-seven; typically a longer physical life, as in Proverbs four, verse ten, Proverbs three, verse two, and Proverbs nine, verse eleven; and a moral and spiritual life, as in Proverbs eight, verse thirty-five, Proverbs nine, verse six, Proverbs ten, verse sixteen, and Proverbs nineteen, verse twenty-three. To live as God has designed brings hope of life after death, as in Proverbs eleven, verse seven, and Proverbs fourteen, verse thirty-two. Christ, who is our wisdom, is the fulfillment of this Old Testament deal of wisdom; He is now our life, as in John five, verse forty, John eleven, verse twenty-five, and John fourteen, verse six, and those who have Him have life, as in First John five, verse twelve.
Wisdom is the principal thing, as in Proverbs four, verse seven. For believers, wisdom from the Lord guides those who receive it. It helps to overcome temptation, as in Matthew twenty-six, verse forty-one, “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Wisdom helps to address serious matters where people are involved. Solomon asked God for wisdom after taking over the reins from David, his father. However, David’s son had a judgment to make in the case of two mothers in First Kings three, verses sixteen through twenty-eight.
Solomon had to decide between two mothers regarding two infants and who should get the living child. The outcome resonated throughout Israel. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.”
