In Psalms, chapter one hundred and thirty-six, verses one through twenty-six, the repeated refrain teaches us that God’s mercy and love are the foundation of all His works on our behalf and the fountainhead of all our thanksgiving. His love includes His mercy, faithfulness, and kindness.
The theme chapter is verses that repeat the title, which indicates the God believers serve that is living actively within His people.
The first three verses begin with God being good and above all other deities. Then, the following verses from four through seven describe His creation of the world and function in sample verses eight to nine. “The sun to rule by day,” “The moon and stars to rule by night.”
Verses ten through sixteen from this theme chapter describe how God’s mercy endures His chosen people, who receive deliverance from bondage out of the control of Pharoah and the Egyptians. The chapter summarizes how God smote Egypt, and then He divided the Red Sea to lead them out.
The Lord is so merciful that He slew leaders in verses seventeen and eighteen. “To him which smote great kings: for His mercy endureth forever. And slew famous kings: for His mercy endureth forever.
No one in this world can stand up to the Almighty God. In Romans eight, verse thirty-one, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Believers who put their trust in the Lord shall be like Mount Zion. “For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession,” as in Psalms sixty-nine, verse thirty-five.
For His mercy endureth forever declares the love God has for His people. All His people have to do is embrace it with affection.
